Dhaka-- (UNB)- Visiting business delegation from India’s industrially advanced state of Gujrat signed six agreements with private sector for setting up joint-venture industries in power generation, still re-rolling, soap manufacturing, oil mill, ceramics and IT sector. Delegation leader Jagat Shah said this in a meeting yesterday (Wednesday) with the leaders of Bangladesh’s apex trade body-the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI). Shah said Bangladesh should diversify its export base and explore market in India to minimise existing bilateral trade gap. “There is substantial preferential market access in India for Bangladesh,” he told the Bangladesh businesspeople. FBCCI director Abdur Razzaque pointed to the trade imbalance, figured over US$ 771 million last fiscal year, is not in the interest of sound trading relationship. Visit of such delegations would help explore potential of joint ventures in many areas and increase Bangladesh’s exports to India, he felt. The 14-member delegation represented textile, steel, machniery, equipment, electrical, motor pumps, engines, dyes, chemical, plastic, IT, aluminium and metal products. Bangladesh business leaders Abul Kashem, Lutfur Rahman, Akhtaruzzaman Manju, ASM Kamal Uddin, Obaidur Rahman and Enayet Hossain Chowdhury were present. |
